The Benidorm Collection
Benidorm is a town and municipality in the province of Alicante on the mainland of Spain. In he 1950’s it became famous as a tourist destination for residents of inland Spain but now receives many more foreign tourists. Famous for its beaches, hotel industry and skyscrapers.
The Dinan Collection
Dinan in France is situated on a hillside overlooking the River Rance and is encircled by its 2.7 kilometre long ramparts a large section of which can be walked round. It is twinned with the town of Exmouth in England, UK.
Half-timbered houses still border the square of Place des Merciers. In the medieval quarter, this was where all the lanes that housed the Middle Ages craftsmen merged. Many ancient lanes still bear the name of trades such as Rue de la Poissonnerie (fishmongers), Rue de la Lainerie (weavers), Rue de la Ferronnerie (iron-mongers), Rue de la Larderie (meat sellers), Rue de la Mittrie (dairy) and Rue du Petit-Pain (bakers).
The Fuerteventura Collection
Fuerteventura is the oldest island in the Canary Islands dating back 20 million years to a volcanic eruption. It is the second biggest of the islands, after Tenerife, and has the longest white sand beaches in the archipelago. The island is a destination for sun, beach and watersports enthusiasts. Fuerteventura has suffered from a population decline due to the economic situation and the climate, which have made it into a desert island. However, the development of tourism during the 1980s has caused the population to grow year on year since then, doubling it in a little less than a decade.
The Fougeres Collection
The creation of the town of Fougères in France dates back to the Middle Ages. It is situated on a high point looking over the Nançon River, strategically important during medieval times defending the frontier between France and Brittany. Fougeres castle has 11 towers and and 3 enclosures and was first classified as an historical monument in 1862. It was timber built in the 11th century later taken by Henry II of England and destroyed. It was rebuilt in stone and became a stronghold to defend the borders of Brittany.
The Launceston Collection
The No.19 Darjeeling B class locomotive was designed specifically for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. It was a development from the smaller A class locomotive, designed by Sharp Stewart and Co. of Glasgow. This locomotive was from the first batch of four locomotives built in 1889, and is the only working survivor. It is privately owned and on the occsasion of this image, was loaned to Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwall for visitor attraction during the summer of 2019.
The Mevagissey Harbour Collection
The harbour of Mevagissey in Cornwall is built on the site of a medieval quay first established in 1430. The inner harbour, consisting of the current East and West Quays was constructed from 1774 and an outer harbour wall was added in 1888, damaged in 1891 then rebuilt in 1897. At the time of the image being made, Mevagissey was quoted as the second largest fishing port in Cornwall.
The Steampunk Collection
These are images of Cosplay characters at the Asylum Steampunk Festival held each year in Lincoln, UK. Those partaking of the event can be seen with elaborate imaginary weapons and gadgets complimented with Victorian style clothing and leather related adornments. Goggles and/or face masks fashioned with gear wheels and other non-working mechanical components are also very popular.
